Course content includes relevant provincial, state and federal safety regulations. The first part of training involves comprehensive in-class instruction and test. Following that is a customized hands-on session along with practical instruction and evaluation.
Course content applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting machinery. Specific instruction would concentrate on aspects of crane operation utilized at the trainee's workplace. Upon completion of the course, trainees would learn how to operate particular overhead lifting equipment, related parts and attachments efficiently and safely.
The operator course's objective is to first identify and potentially dangerous operator habits that may develop when an individual operates an overhead crane. Participants will be graded on their knowledge of training material via written tests and an assessment of their practical knowledge. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.
The in-class session, the trainee would know about causes of occurrences and damages, guidelines and legislation, danger awareness, internal responsibility, basic equipment and design principles, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, safe hosting/operating methods, pre-shift equipment inspections, equipment applications/rigging, types of hardware, operator/pedestrian safety, angles and hitches, hand signals for operators and slingers, turning/flipping loads safely.
The practical training and evaluation portion of the course should be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training will be held at the trainees' facility. The length of this practical training part is one to two hours. Two operators at a time would be trained by the instructor about skills like right rigging practices, safe operation and planning the lift.
Upon completion of the practical operating instruction and evaluation and the in-class instruction, the trainee will write a test. Signed safety rules would be needed from each and every participant. Successful trainees would be provided with individual wallet certificates. A framed wall certificate will be provided to the company.
